It could only be statistical hype as you stated.But, if this study is true then it could help the current society.The birth rate is really high right now, and if it decreased it could smooth things down.I mean, I'm not saying to stop having kids.No, please do if you want to!But, with the ongoing problems presently, a lower birthrate could probably alternate the current issues especially in undeveloped countries.
