Trash issue!?

O.k well i threw my retainer in the trash on accident and i had to go digging threw to trash to get it back. (i know ewww gross but i had to get it back somehow) anyway i dont wanna put it back in my mouth untill i know for a fact it is as clean as clean can be. how can i wash it without it getting ruined???
