Frightened border collie any suggestions ?

i have just recently got a border collie from my sister as she no longer had the time for him he is only a year old and he is so nervous , he is okay around me as he knows me but he is so frightened of my husband and cowers down , he also follows me around all the time and wont leave my side . any suggestions about the cowering and frightenedness , he is so wary of my husband i want him to get on well with him but everytime he sees my husband he cowars and runs toward me . any suggestions to make him feel more comfy in his new home ??
